Windows Vista Networking - Error code 1017

I came across this on a Windows Vista SP1 Toshiba at work. None of the networking (lan or wireless) would connect. When I opened a terminal and tried to do ipconfig or ping anything, I got the error message "Unable to initialize windows sockets interface, error code 10107"

The usual fixes hadn't worked until i found this commad:

netsh winsock reset

It needs to be run in command prompt, which must be run as Administrator. Reboot the PC after and all should be well.
